How to use testimonials to drive traffic to your website & build your list:

When you give SOMEONE ELSE a testimonial, make sure that they include a link to your website with the testimonial. If you’re giving a video testimonial, say your website during the video.

Often people will be inspired by your testimonial and want to check YOU out, not just the person who you gave the testimonial to.

How to use testimonials to increase your conversion rate:

Third party endorsement and social proof are HUGE!!! In my experience, the testimonials that your clients and colleagues give you contribute more to your opt in rate and sales conversion than your hottest and most eloquent marketing copy.

Pepper your sales pages with testimonials, and include them in your speaking presentations, videos and e-mails (basically… everywhere!)

How to gather powerful testimonials:

ASK FOR THEM!

When appropriate, you can even WRITE THEM FOR THEM and have them edit / approve

Often when my clients are raving about the amazing results they’re getting from working with me, I say “That’s awesome! Can I use that as a testimonial?” and when they say yes, “Great! I’ll e-mail you what I just heard you say and you can edit or approve it. Does that work?”

Everyone has always appreciated this because it makes their life easier.

The most powerful testimonials often revolve around:

1. The specific results they’ve gotten from working with you
2. What they appreciate most about your character & abilities
3. What they appreciate most about the process you’ve taken them through
4. Whatever else they feel inspired to share

One of my favorite testimonial templates is:

“Before working with [YOUR NAME], _________________, and now _____________________.”

Step 2:

If you’d like me to feature you on my website and in my marketing, please leave a testimonial for me as a comment on this blog post.

NOTE: Remember to include your title (ex. Master Hand Analyst, Business Coach, etc.) the URL for your website that you want me to send people to.

1. The specific results you’ve gotten from working with me
2. What you appreciate about my character and abilities and working with me in general

Step 3:

Write 3 testimonials that you wish people would give YOU. What would you love for your clients and colleagues to say about you?

This is for your own internal use – you don’t have to post these here on the blog.

 
Step 4:

E-mail 3 or more colleagues or clients that you feel would be willing to give you a testimonial and provide the testimonials that you wrote about yourself as examples for them to edit / approve.

People are busy! By giving them a first draft to work with, you will get more testimonials.

Tell us about your business. What do you do?
 
As a marketing coach and copywriter, I help entrepreneurs turn their creativity, content and copy into cash. I work with people who are awesome at what they do but have challenges expressing it in their marketing so that prospects “get” the bigger meaning and value of their products or services.
 
In my 20+ year career as a Madison Avenue copywriter and Creative Director (I created the Wait Till We Get Our Hanes on You campaign for Hanes) I helped huge brands get inside their customers’ heads and elevate their brand value with big ideas that made them stand for something, and now I do the same for both my corporate and entrepreneurial clients.
 
I love to help them dream up new content ideas, new products and entire new marketing funnels out of thin air during VIP “Brandstorming” days. I also love how today’s technology makes it possible for anyone to have an influential brand and a thriving business like mine, that lets them be independent of a J-O-B.

 
What inspired you to sign up for the List-a-Palooza 90 Day List-Building Challenge?
 
I did List-a-Palooza last year with great results. It is a unique event in that it encourages partnership and cooperation, and I love how the different mini-challenges, such as the Power Hours, mix it up and let everybody shine.
 
What have been your biggest “ahas” or takeaways from List-a-Palooza?
 
We all have our unique “takes” on our areas of expertise, and there is room for everyone! We have a lot to learn from each other and I’m awed by the creativity I see in the group!
 
Do you offer a free gift or goody for potential clients when they join your list? If not, how do people join your list? If so, what is it and how do people sign up?

Which list-building tactics have worked best for you?
 
Launching products have probably built my list the most. Another effective tactic has been participating in multiple-expert giveaway events like the Done4You Giveaway, which just concluded. However, it remains to be seen whether the quality is there, since the “giveaway” aspect may attract a higher percentage of freebie-seekers. That said, I’ve already had a couple of inquiries from new, paying customers who found me that way. And of course, List-a-palooza is a great way to build your list.
 
What advice do you have for people who are participating in List-a-Palooza?
 
I’d say don’t get overwhelmed with all the opportunities PJ is organizing for you so that you do nothing. Pick your activities and go 100% on those. Also, look for specific people within the group who might make especially good partners for you and connect with them so you can JV later.
